Go Boho // With Texture!

Happy Wednesday! Today I bring you part three of my new series, Go Boho!

If you missed part one, all about COLOR, you can check it out HERE. And part two, all about PATTERN, is right HERE!

Today, let’s see how TEXTURE can up the ante in our boho decor game!

Go Boho with…

Monochromatic Texture

A monochromatic color scheme can sound, and quite frankly be, dead boring. And the bohemian trend is not about being boring! But if you’re on the fence about going too far on the boho train, then consider doing it with a textured monochromatic scheme. If you have a lot of different textures going on, you can’t go wrong! Something fluffy, silky, nubby, furry, smooth, rough, lacy, woven, carved, the list goes on! The elements could all be the same exact color and the textures would add so much interest you wouldn’t even have a chance to be bored.

Now, this doesn’t HAVE to be done in a scheme of off-whites, but it just so happens that Pinterest is ripe with creamy monochrome textured decor, so without further ado, check out these beautiful monochromatic, textured spaces!

Neutral Color Scheme

Branching out slightly from the safety zone of monochromatic texture is the neutral color scheme. Using a more varied color palette, in addition to texture, can add even more interest to your space. And more of that boho flair! It can be a subtle contrast like a slightly darker thread to the fabric on an embroidered pillow. Or a subtle stripe on a woven throw. Or it can be a more stark contrast, adding even more depth and dimension into your space. The contrast of creamy whites against rich honey tones, deep browns and dark grays just adds a friendly warmth to the mix. Sneak in blush pinks or sage greens and without going too far into the realm of color, and still staying relatively neutral, you’ll bring even more life into your textured scheme.

All The Textiles

This will probably sound like a no brainer, and that’s because it is! But the simplest way to bring texture into your space is with different textiles! There are so many types of texture and just by having an accent rug, a sofa or bed, curtains, throw pillows and blankets in a single space, you automatically have an assortment of textures in your midst. Because normally these things are not typically made from the same materials. And it’s the mix of textures that make your space feel lived in, cozy, comfortable and all of that screams bohemian to me.

A Mixture of Texture!

When we think of texture, we probably think of all sorts of soft things first. But the truth is that texture is not limited to plush textiles. As I touched on earlier, texture is found in woven baskets, carved wood, and even in smooth surfaces! Things like slate floor or hammered metal have texture, thought you wouldn’t want to curl up with them on a cold winter’s night! Nevertheless, they add to the story. This type of contrast make texture more effective. You can’t have light without also knowing darkness. Hard and soft, woven and plush, rough and smooth. So mix it up!
