Living With Less // An Introduction

Hello my lovelies!

Today I’m starting a new series on the blog called Living With Less. As I mentioned in my 20 Goals for 2020 post (HERE), I am interested in living a more minimalist lifestyle. I will never be a minimalist in the truest sense of the word, but I certainly want to reduce the amount of things that I have and be more disciplined about what I bring into my space and surround myself with. So today I will be sharing a bit of an intro into what, and how, I plan to tackle on this journey to a more minimalist life.

Declutter!
While I love home decor (in general and mine specifically), I have to admit that I have a tendency to accumulate clutter which takes away from beautiful decor! So, in my quest to be more disciplined, and to achieve a more minimalist lifestyle, I plan to keep clutter at bay once and for all! Put it away before it piles up! Throw out trash and breakdown cardboard immediately! Tend to the junk mail as soon as it comes in from the mailbox! The list goes on!!! Etc, etc, etc…

Pare Down Decor
I love a layered look, I don’t think that will ever change. Maybe just less things layered in one particular space. I like color (in small doses), so I’ll never be an all white with touches of cream and beige kind of girl. And at this point in my life, I still like me a gallery wall and a vignette. That may change, but for now it stays. All that being said, I want to edit my decor so that it’s more streamlined, less cluttered. Allowing more physical and visual room to breathe.

Improve Organization
In the process of decluttering and paring down my possessions, I am finding that there are random bits in all different places. So I am making it a priority to improve my organization: put like things together, find a home for them (if I need or want to keep them) and store them in one place. This will not only allow for a more streamlined look throughout my home but will also make it easier to know where to find these things when I need them. Win, win!

Whittle My Wardrobe
I have too many clothes that I don’t wear. So I started the process of pulling them out of my closet and bagging them up for donation. So far I haven’t missed anything that I’ve removed, but I still need/want to do more. I want to attempt a full time “capsule” wardrobe of sorts and implement mix and match outfit formulas that will also make getting dressed a lot simpler. While clothing hasn’t been too difficult to whittle down, shoes are going to be a different story!

Simplify My Routines
Besides paring down my wardrobe, I think that simplifying all of my daily routines will help in my quest for a more minimalist lifestyle. Things like skincare, makeup, hair styling… Even exercise. If I make it less daunting I’ll be more inclined to do it. I hope! And same goes for my diet too. Less mental energy figuring out what to eat will be lovely. I’m not saying eat the same thing everyday or never try something new, but cultivating a small, healthy menu to rotate through so as to simplify meal prep and still enjoy some variety.

As with anything in life, this is going to be a process. Can I promise that every vignette will have a limited number of items in it? No. But I’m okay with that. I don’t know exactly what the destination is going to be. It might change along the way. Maybe one day I will become an all white and beige kind of girl, but for now I’m just going to work on making progress. Taking the journey as it comes. Seeing where it takes me.

Have you considered taking a more minimalist approach to life?

Many thanks and much love,
laf
