Hello! I’m Lisa, a 30-something currently living in suburban Philadelphia. I’m carving this space out here on the interwebs for a few reasons… First, I love to write! Second, I love art and design! And third, I’m at a point in my life where I need to be more accountable for my actions and responsible for the ramifications that result. Boy, that sounds SO serious and scary. But I just need to start making more of the right choices to nurture my mind, body and spirit. So I guess that does make it serious, at least to me.
So, with that said, I’m tasking this space to do three things:
1) to be an outlet for all of the creative endeavors I want to pursue;
2) to be my accountability coach as I develop new habits and hobbies; and
3) to inspire me to live my best life, and open my horizons to new adventures!
A little more about me… So, I spend the majority of my waking hours during the week working full time as a CSR and in-house graphic designer for a commercial printing company across the county line. I’ve been working there since 2007, and while it’s had its ups and downs (and ups and downs) over the years, it has helped me grow in so many ways. I’m *generally* happy with the way it challenges me on a daily basis, and I look forward to continuing to expand my responsibilities into more creative facets of the everyday business.
“I love home decor from the top of my head down to my tippy toes. I need it in my life. Both the challenges and the joy it brings.”
How did I get into design? I’ve always had a love of art, it was my favorite “special” throughout elementary school and I studied it all throughout middle school, high school and college. Back in 9th grade, I thought I wanted to be an interior designer. I would rearrange my bedroom on a whim for as long as I can remember. Just ask my mom! She would hear me moving furniture from the first floor of my childhood home and knew I was at it again. So I took an elective class, and while it was fun, it wasn’t what I thought it would be. By 11th grade, I developed an interest in graphic design instead. So when I went to college, that’s what I majored in. I graduated in 2006 with a BFA concentrating in Graphic Design and a minor in Business Admin. And now I am surrounded by both things every day at my 9-5, whether I’m designing our own promotional pieces or doing client work, or even just being surrounded by customer designs as they pass through my hands coming in and out of production. But interiors will always have a special place in my heart. I know this sounds cliché, but I love home decor from the top of my head down to my tippy toes. I need it in my life. Both the challenges of getting it just right, and the joy it brings.
I’ve been living in my 1300+ s.f. condo/townhome since May of 2015, and ever since I first saw the MLS listing, I’ve been giddy with excitement over its potential, my brain overflowing with ideas for decorating it, transforming it into something special, and making it my very own. And I’m happy to report that that feeling hasn’t faded as time has passed. In fact, it’s only intensified. I’ve decorated every inch once, and then started redecorating almost every inch again. A lot is still in progress. Just like me. And guess what, I’m eager to tackle it all. Will my design to do list ever end? I hope not!
I hope you’ll join me as I chronicle my love affair with home decor, and my attempts at being accountable for all of the other choices I make in life. My hope is to inspire you, in some small (or big) way, as I seek to better myself and figure out how to make everything in life mix and marry together seamlessly, like a great design.
Many thanks and much love,
Lisa (laf)
