Confession time: I am not a great housekeeper. I’d much rather be doing pretty much ANYTHING else. I’m not living in filth, but I can’t say I clean with any kind of enthusiasm. Or probably the regularity that I should. Shhh, don’t tell my mom, lol…
So while other blogs you may read this time of year will probably give you a list of things to deep clean as winter turns to spring (think vacuuming blinds and upholstery, washing curtain panels, steam cleaning carpets, dusting baseboards, etc), I’m going to suggest a short and sweet checklist of some out-of-the-box things to tackle this spring cleaning season. That’s not to say I won’t be doing the traditional cleaning tasks, but you know what I mean, right?
My Top 3 Items to Spring Clean This Year
- Your Routine: With the change of season comes new activities to take part in, seasonal events to go to, possibly a change in weather depending on where you live and how global warming is affecting you. It’s so easy to get in a rut, doing the same things on autopilot day in and day out. Today is the perfect time to take a look at your daily routines and see what can change now that spring has sprung. Maybe your skin care routine can be overhauled now that the bitter cold is on its way out. Maybe exercising outdoors is now an option you won’t dread, or doing outdoor activities to replace a traditional gym workout. The possibilities are endless really, so don’t be afraid to change it up and enjoy the change of season.
- Electronic Files: While you’re in the mode of spring cleaning your physical space, it’s also a great time to tackle your digital space! Clean up the apps on your phone that are sucking up tons of storage, sort through your camera roll and get rid of any duplicates or pictures that you don’t need to keep or don’t bring you joy. This also applies to your computer. Clean up any stray files that can be put into a folder. Or delete the ones you don’t need anymore. Organize files so you know where everything is and you don’t have to go searching for it when you need it in a hurry (like the manual to your washer when something isn’t quite right).
- Email Subscriptions: I discussed this idea HERE in a Blogmas post I wrote last year, but boy does it make a HUGE difference! Take a few minutes each day to actually go in and unsubscribe from those emails you only end up deleting anyway. Not having to sift through the garbage to get to the good stuff (coupon codes to your favorite shoe and home decor stores!) is a wonderful feeling, and a great way to start off spring! It might take a couple of weeks to get all the stray subscriptions, but you won’t regret the time investment. Promise!
What out-of-the-box items do you spring clean?
Many thanks and much love,
