I am a member of the human race.
I don’t consider myself a racist. But I am not an activist. Nor am I a protestor. I don’t speak up. I don’t speak out.
But I am a member of the human race.
If I listen to social media, if I’m not out there advocating for change, then I am just as bad as the most blatant bigot. Am I?
I am a member of the human race.
I have this humble platform, yet I don’t know what to say. I don’t feel comfortable. But I suppose that’s the point, huh?
I am a member of the human race.
And I believe that all humans should have the same rights, the same opportunities, the same respect.
The state of the world right now, particularly in the US, is tumultuous at best. Law enforcement going too far. Looters taking advantage. Leadership that does not lead, but rather enrages and embarrasses. How did we elect this into power? How did we become this nation? Or have we always been this way?
Deep down that’s what this is all about, isn’t it? That for hundreds of years we have been a land of unequal rights. And though so many things have changed around us, this one critical piece of the puzzle has not.
There are good and bad among us all. No one “race” is superior or inferior. Now is the time for change. It’s long overdue.
I am a member of the human race.
We all are.
