Today I’m sharing the current state of my closet. That is, what it looks like after I took out the old dining chairs that have been stashed in there since June, went through the bins along the top to remind myself what was even in them, pulled items I wanted to donate, straightened everything out and made sure it looked halfway decent…
A disclaimer: I have disliked the bones of this closet for 10 years. The wire shelving situation is the bane of my existence. It bows in the middle (or is just installed incorrectly, not by me) and the lack of a rod makes moving hangers and organizing my wardrobe into a whole thing. So my dream is to have a closet system installed, with a higher rod that allows for double hanging in sections, space for drawers at the bottom (instead of bins at the top) where I can reach them more easily, shelves for shoes and other items, etc. I am considering some sort of configuration from the Audral system at IKEA. TBD…
But before I would do the closet build out with any type of system, I would like to replace the flooring (either new carpet or I’m toying with hardwood-look laminate for the upstairs, but that’s an internal debate I’m struggling with and not ready to pull the trigger on yet). The walls and ceiling in there are also in desperate need of painting. So alas, until the time comes (if ever), I am making do with what I have. I have reorganized since I last shared my closet HERE, most notably moving out the IKEA Kallax unit and moving in the dresser (also IKEA) that had been in my fitness room in its past life.
And without further ado, because I have rambled for far too long already, let’s jump into the photos!
The left side of my closet is my work wardrobe, the capsule 4.0 that I introduced HERE last week, hampers for clothes and undergarments, plus a shoe cubby with seldom worn clogs, sandals and wedges.
The center has the relocated IKEA dresser with workout and lounge wear, a cubby that houses my regularly worn shoes, and the floor lamp that used to be next to my bed. Having light, especially in that center section, is amazing and something small that brings so much joy.
And the right side are clothes that don’t currently fit, but I hope to be able to wear again one day (I’ve already said goodbye to a lot of this ilk, but these are the ones I can’t part with quite yet), along with my dresses for fancier occasions (ones that fit and ones that don’t…yet…). The hamper on this side holds donations that need to be packed up and taken to Goodwill.
For now this mini update will do, it feels organized and manageable. Now to pack up those donations, and get the dining chairs up to the attic…
What’s the state of your closet? Does it need a refresh, or a major overhaul?
