Today’s post is just a quick tip for plotting out the steps needed to achieve your goals, bit by bit, every day. I’ve hinted at it in previous posts, but we’ll dig a little deeper here. The tip is to create a daily to do list with your top three tasks. No more.
It can be overwhelming to look at a big, or even medium sized goal, and figure out how to achieve it. You can’t just put it on your to do list and expect it to get done. Breaking it down into smaller steps is almost always the answer.
Once you have the steps you need to take to reach your end goal, you can add them to your daily to do list. Depending how many goals you have, and how complicated they are, will dictate how many smaller tasks you have to tackle within your timeframe.
My tactic of doing three things each day has really helped me achieve my goals. It might be three steps toward one goal, or one step each for three different goals. And this approach doesn’t have to be just for goals. It could be for anything you have to complete. Family obligations, home maintenance tasks, events or appointments, etc. If possible, limit your to do list to the top three tasks you need or want to achieve.
When they are goal related though, making sure the steps are small enough to be attainable within the time you have to do them, is really key. Overwhelm can be a goal dealbreaker.
It’s important to keep the momentum up, so you don’t lose traction, and doing three small steps a day is a great way to do that. The more steps you take, the closer you’ll get to achieving your goals, big and small, every week, month and year.
How do you tackle your goals?
