Merry Blogmas Day #3! Today I just wanted to take a moment to remember my dad on this sixth Christmas season without him, and to honor our many years’ long tradition on Christmas Eve. It’s definitely not the same without you!
For as along as I can remember, my dad and I would go shopping for my mom on Christmas Eve. We would brave the traffic, the packed parking lots and the masses at the malls. Does anyone even go to the mall anymore??
This was part exhilarating and part panic inducing, especially as I got older and my social anxiety blossomed! But it was always fun when we were together.
My dad would wear a Santa hat, and paired with his beard, little kids at the mall would point and call him Santa.
We would always stop by Godiva, and buy something for Mom, and ourselves too– of course!
Once I got a full time job, I sometimes had to work on Christmas Eve depending on what day of the week it fell and what the office schedule would be. Those years weren’t quite the same.
And as the years wore on, it became exceedingly harder to find what Mom had hinted at in stores. So we often ordered online and printed out a picture of what would be coming to her doorstep after the holiday.
It wasn’t for a lack of planning or us procrastinating. It was just our tradition.
Love and miss you always!
