Blogmas Day #4: It’s Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all! For many years now we have been going to my cousin’s house in NJ to celebrate Christmas day, and this year is no exception! We are picking up my aunt and uncle in PA before we head across the river, but we’re looking forward to a festive day of family and food! Let’s recap!

First, let’s rewind to Christmas Eve! I worked a half day (an unexpected noon release was a nice surprise); then I went home, had lunch, wrapped mom’s presents and loaded up my sleigh. We had shrimp scampi for dinner and then opened presents as has been tradition since I moved out in 2015. Mom was a solid 4/5 on her gifts, 1 is still TBD– this is a good success rate, especially compared to last year!… and I was pleasantly surprised, and very grateful, for mine 🙂

After dozing on the couch (an almost daily tradition lol), I went home and had a restless night of sleep after a sudden onset of sinus issues (perhaps related to my weekend illness). This made me feel mostly miserable all day (just from a sinus perspective, and particularly on the drive there and back). But all in all, it was a nice time celebrating the day with loved ones.

Some highlights:

  • Crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and spanakopita on the appetizer table
  • Ham and eggplant parm (and the salad with a yummy dressing) for dinner!
  • An unexpected variation on a White Elephant gift exchange
  • An impromptu dance party featuring aunt, uncle and cousins
  • And of course, talking and spending time with the fam

If you celebrate, how was your Christmas day?
