Utility Closet Revamp

This week in my Monday Musings post I talked about tools I use to plan my life. If you missed it, you can read it HERE. So I thought an appropriate tie in would be revealing the latest setup of my utility closet, where I keep my TOOLS! See what I did there? It’s gotten a little update since I last shared it HERE.

This is where my HVAC unit and water heater are located, so it’s a natural storage space for other utility type items. Paint cans and supplies, tools, random adhesives and fasteners, random scraps of wood, cleaning supplies, etc. My Dyson charging station also lives here.

Some of the storage solutions didn’t change, like the tension rod holding up my 6-foot ladder, and the IKEA carts and peg board for tools and such. What did get an upgrade were the floor (peel and stick black and white “tile”), and the dingy walls and ceiling which I painted a nice crisp white. I also got an industrial metal shelving rack on wheels (for when I have to empty the closet for HVAC and water heater maintenance) to replace the shelves that had been affixed to the wall and were a real pain to remove when having the aforementioned service calls.

I also added a small legend as to what is stored where for the closed storage on the metal shelving. It’s very helpful when I’m hunting for something in particular and can’t remember where I stashed it.

Please forgive the horrible lighting. I added a utility light to the peg board, which does help loads to see in the low-ceilinged back portion of the closet(which is under my stairway landing). I know the photos leave a lot to be desired… it’s much better in person, promise!

Sometimes the simplest updates can have a big impact, and I this is definitely an example of that.

Have you done any quick fixes that made noticeable difference?
