Let me start by saying that the original title for this post in my editorial calendar was “DIML: My First (and Last?) Vlog.”
I love watching vlogs on YouTube and even mini-vlog reels on IG, and I’d be lying if I said from time to time I haven’t wondered what it would be like being on the other side of the camera…so last week, when I was off from my full time job during my annual birthday week staycation, I attempted to film a vlog. And let me just tell you, I do not know how vloggers do it. Not even the whole putting yourself and (some of) your life out there part, but the actual effort the goes into filming, remembering to pick up the camera, getting all the shots, etc. It’s a lot. Kudos to all those content creators out there who do this on the regular.
I took clips throughout the week hoping to get something good for a day in the life video… last week was not a typical week, since I was off from my full time job and my normal routine. But I thought it would hopefully make for a more interesting video. My hope/plan was to capture me doing stuff around the house (that is, the decor/home project related stuff I had on my to do list), so it would be relevant to the blog.
As of writing, I’m unsure if I’ll post any of the clips here…but I thought I’d still share what I got up to last week, just with words. Let’s do it!
Monday
Technically this should have been Day 1 of my Staycation, but we had a major snow and ice event on Sunday and my work closed so it was actually a snow day— and dealing with the aftermath was no vacation! There was a lot of clean up. A LOT.
I did take down and put away (most) of my Christmas decor. A few days later and I’m still finding random decorations here and there… I also watched Dead Man Wake Up (the third Knives Out movie) on Monday evening. I give it 4 stars. Glass Onion is my fave of the three.
Tuesday
First official day of my staycation, that is, one not commandeered by Mother Nature. What did I even do? Nothing home decor specific. I did start to prep for Wednesday’s agenda…
Wednesday
I had to fast for a blood test at 9am. I had a restless night (or morning), thinking I had eaten when I wasn’t supposed to, or that I would forget to fast when I woke up, and that’s never fun.
After I came home (and had my breakfast and coffee), I prepped for painting a couple of areas in my home. In the end it was all a success, but I did not plan or prep properly, for this AT ALL as I didn’t have a good roller and ended up painting a whole wall with a tiny foam one— I think the results came out well enough (you’ll have to tell me when I share in the coming weeks). But I was exhausted by the time it was all done.
Later on I called my internet provider and negotiated a pretty good deal for my new service agreement period. Woo woo! #win
Thursday
Compared to yesterday I didn’t have many productive things on my to do list. I painted my nails, called (and left a message for) an old co-worker I’d lost touch with, and then my Mom and I went to visit my aunt and uncle to have lunch with them and my cousin Annette. It was a good time, with yummy food, and a surprise birthday dessert situation with candles, cards and beautiful roses too!
Friday
Happy Birthday to me!
I had a period of sadness in the morning, feeling quite down and alone. I forced myself to get off the couch, and did my PT exercises and walked/jogged on the treadmill. That helped me shake the slump.
I got ready for the day (and my annual birthday photo shoot tradition), but got a return call from my old co-worker so we chatted quite a bit first. Then I attempted to take a good picture lol— not sure if I succeeded. I also wrote a letter to my 43-year-old self to read next year.
Somewhere in that mix, I started watching season 4 of The Traitors. Very dramatic and fun, and addicting with those cliffhanger episodes…
Then Mom and I went out to an early dinner at Longhorn as is tradition for each of our birthdays now, and it was yummy but after I felt like a slug and fell asleep on the couch once we got home… also tradition, not just on birthdays lol.
When I got home, I journaled, watched the next episode of Emily in Paris, read a little and then went to sleepies.
And so that was my week off. The snow really threw most of my plans off, but considering I did get quite a few things from my list done and resting was also a part of the agenda so I think it was a success.
Regarding the whole vlog idea, well…I won’t be sharing the clips I took this week, but I may attempt to vlog again sometime in the future. Maybe on a weekend when I’m doing a home project, to document the behind the scenes of it all. What do you think?
Do you ever get the urge to vlog your life?
