Upcoming: Project Punch List for March

In last week’s post, I reflected on being a weekend warrior and shared my approach to projects HERE. As I wrote that post, I realized that maybe I need some accountability to get those projects completed. So, at the beginning of each month, I plan to share the projects I’m hoping to accomplish! And maybe a report card on how I did on the previous month’s projects… first up, what’s slated for March?

As I mentioned in last week’s post, some of my home projects are just (“just”) purchases. They take a different kind of planning and execution and shouldn’t be written off. I have a couple of those, to varying degrees, this month.

Project #1

Buy a new desk chair – the chair I’m currently using in my home office used to be my dad’s and when mine bit the dust, I confiscated it from my Mom’s house (permission granted first, of course). It was pretty good for awhile, but now if I sit in it for too long my booty goes numb, even with a cushion meant to alleviate back pain. I try not to sit for extended periods of time, but sometimes I forget to get up.

This is mostly just a purchase, some assembly will be required but no extensive installation on my part. I’ll have to do some research too. And I’ll have to really consider my budget– some of the chairs that my algorithm is feeding me are expensive! But if it’s good, it’ll be worth it. Or maybe I just need a new cushion?? TBD…

Project #2

Source, buy and install a pull out/drop down shelf in hallway for laundry products – wow that was long winded… basically my laundry situation is a stacked unit in an alcove with no nearby counter space. I have a small basket on top of my dryer to hold detergent tablets and fabric softener, plus a couple of other laundry odds and ends. In an ideal world, I’d have somewhere to put the basket while I’m loading the washer. Somewhere that isn’t the floor, even though I have to get on the floor when I load the washer (or bend over and aggravate my back, no thanks)… in an even more ideal situation, the washer wouldn’t shake the whole upstairs when it spins.

The more I’m describing this whole thing, I’m thinking it might just be a question mark kind of project. Like, is it something I really want to do? Is it worth it? Is the basket going to fall off the shelf when the washer spins and shakes all the walls upstairs? Probably. Is it just as easy (or taxing) to take the basket from the top of the dryer to put it on the shelf vs the floor when loading the washer? Yes.

It’s just awkward. So I’d like to try to find a solution that could maybe alleviate this inconvenient setup. Maybe I’ll do some sourcing online, and see if I can find anything that looks promising and wouldn’t break the bank. If not, I’ll just let it go and proceed as I have been. Me and the basket, on the floor.

I’m glad we had this chat, expectations set!

Project #3

Buy and hang artwork above new necklace wall configuration – I have already ordered said artwork (a rattan “evil” eye wall hanging seen HERE) and am just awaiting its arrival this month, and then to install. Reveal coming soon!

Project #4

Paint the ceiling in my fitness room – this is my most dreaded task. I hate painting ceilings. Probably because I’m vertically challenged. I also have motion sensitivity so looking up while rolling paint is not my idea of a good time.

Last year, or maybe two years ago, I got new ceiling fans installed. My bedroom and office already had fans, but in my fitness room I had only had a light fixture. A big boob light. The ceiling fan has a smaller footprint where it attachs to the ceiling, so now there are two different colors up there… NOT a vibe. I do not want to do this. But it has to be done. I have to buy the paint first, then bite the bullet.

Bonus Project

Artwork over fireplace in primary bedroom – this is leftover from February; it just didn’t get done. And since I probably talked myself out of the laundry shelf project, I’m good with migrating this to March.

I had an idea to use these driftwood-esque branches I’ve had for ages as some kind of wall hanging/installation, but couldn’t quite find the inspiration for something. I think I have an idea, now it’s just figuring out how to execute it. Also, sneaky peak of some bedroom updates before a reveal coming up very soon! Hopefully this project is done before then…

And that’s all I have planned for March projects! Not too bad, right? Doable? The ceiling is the one I’m concerned about… and it may get pushed back.
