Of all the rooms in my home, my primary bedroom has gone through the fewest number of changes since I first moved in and put my stamp on it. There isn’t much that can be done in terms of furniture arrangement, so that limits what I can do. I have gotten new bedding, and painted an accent wall (and spoiler, I recently painted a second one). It’s been years since I’ve done anything of note. I shared my latest updates in the Fall of 2019 HERE. Since then, it’s mostly been business as usual over here. But not anymore!

In 2024, I made a couple of updates to my bedroom that didn’t have a huge visual impact, but they made a big difference in my comfort. First, I got a new ceiling fan! The old one was not only hideous, but it was on a stem and was probably off balance. When I put it on high, it would shake and make noise and generally annoy me, sometimes even keeping me awake. I replaced it with a more flush mount option (as flush as a ceiling fan can get), and it has been so nice! In September 2024, I splurged and got a new Purple mattress. And their pillows. And I let them up-sell me on an adjustable base too…

The new bed situation led me to my first update that created a bit of a visual change. I mounted my headboard on the wall instead of attaching it to the new frame. There were logistical reasons for this, but I think it worked out for the best. Now it’s taller and has more of a presence on this wall.

I also got new lamps for my nightstands.
My TV is gone (it moved to my fitness room a long time ago) and so are the shoe cubes (they’re in my closet now), and in their place is the fireplace and bench/basket combo that used to reside in my living room. If you couldn’t tell, I love to play decor musical chairs… In January of this year, while on my birthday staycation, I decided to paint this wall blue so the white fireplace and dresser would pop more. And most recently I added some decorative wood branches as wall art. I’m liking it!

Overall, not much has changed, but I’ve always been happy with how this room feels, and am pleased with these small updates. Next up is new flooring (throughout the upstairs) and then the closet build out! And maybe a new coverlet for summer… and then, that should do it!
Have you done small changes that make an impact?
