Reflecting on… Q2 and Mid-Year Goal Check-in

I know it’s annoying when people say I can’t believe it’s already the end of June, but I really can’t! The winter dragged on and then the last three to four months just went by in a blink! Insane! So it is that time, to reflect on Q2 and while we’re at it, let’s check in on the annual goals too.

As of writing this post, I have accomplished 25% of my Q2 goals. There’s still a few days left in the quarter, and I project that I’ll get to around 75% like I did in Q1 (you can read that reflection HERE). If I exceed that, I might come back and edit this section of the post. I’d love to hit at least 80! Overall, I feel good about my progress, though I still have some pain points, of course.

Where Did I Have Issues?

I had high hopes for Q2, but my weight loss goal is still kicking my butt. I feel like I am trying really hard, but it’s not hard enough. This month I really put in an effort to start working out again and did well, not perfect, but better than nothing. April was a bust for almost everything because of some dust allergies taking me down, but May should have been better. And it was in a lot of regards. Just not this one.

Also didn’t get to see my bestie, and didn’t support a local restaurant.

Where Did I Do Well?

In May, I got into a groove with my personal curriculum goal. June was a little less successful but still fun. I’m obsessed with junk journaling now!

I also did really good with the loft declutter! It’s basically done, just a couple of boxes to sort through, and some donations to take care of really—stay tuned for that post soon!

Some honorable mentions are my savings goals (automated) and books and media goals which are almost always a given. I’ll take an easy win!

Mid-Year Goal Check-In

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I just need to say that I feel off track with my overall vision for the year. I don’t think I shared my word and phrase of the year when I spelled out all of my annual goals, so I’m just going to take a moment to reflect here…

(Rediscovery &) Reinvention – Who am I? Good question, sometimes I feel like I don’t know. So my intention for the year was to figure that out. Who was I? Who did I want to be? How do I go from one to the other? I have been working on Becoming You in the first half of the year, and plan to do other personality testing for the second half of 2026. But that’s only the first half of the equation. Reinvention. This was mostly in terms of my physical health and fitness. And I haven’t made much progress here. Time to regroup!

First Discipline, Then Desire – This phrase is meant to be a reminder to do the hard things first. The things I don’t want to do but need to do. After I do the workout, then I can read or watch something. I’m struggling to follow this mantra. Regrouping here too!

Me, Myself & I

Subcategories: self improvement, health & fitness, wealth management

Overarching goal: Make great strides toward securing my future and solidifying who I am.

Cook 1+ recipe from each cookbook (1/month) – originally this goal was to read through and cook at least one recipe. I have changed it to just read through and flag recipes I’m interested in. So far, so good– and I’ve made a couple recipes along the way too!

Discover who I am (personality tests, values, etc) – I read “Becoming You” and did the Values Bridge quiz. I originally intended to do all this in Q1 but extended to Q2. In Q3 and Q4 I plan to do other personality tests, a couple per month, and journal to reflect on the results.

Make my systems and schedules more fun – I created a weekly reset (post to come!) but I still struggling with the “clean something big” item and sometimes I feel like all I’m doing is resetting all weekend lol. My AM routine is getting there, and PM is still up in the air. Will be regrouping on this one in the second half of the year!

Continue exposure therapy to reduce social anxiety – I’m letting this one go, for now– or at least in a less strict way. I definitely notice when I’m shying away from something because of the fear of anxiety, sometimes I push myself, and other times I let it go and move on.

Get out of obese weight range – originally the plan was to hit this by the end of July when I have my annual wellness visit, but it’s not happening at this point. I think I’m going to reframe this goal. Yes I want to lose the weight, but even more importantly I want to be healthy and feel good. I want to improve my strength and flexibility mostly. My endurance also. So I am going to focus on those three things mostly, and hopefully the weight will be a welcome byproduct. And maybe I’ll hit my goal by the end of the year? Possibly…?

Focus on positivity through journaling (and meditation?) – I stopped journaling for a few months but I’ve been back to it recently. I still struggle to make time for it in the morning (while still doing other things I want to get done). But I try to do at least one page in the morning and a page of gratitude journaling at night.

Save at least $15,000 in assorted buckets – I think I’m doing good with this, and I’m on track to hit by the end of the year.

Practice slow spending and stick to fun money budgets – so far I’m doing good with this too. No adjustments needed. Will continue with it.

Work toward balancing my portfolio – is there any one right rule for portfolio balance? I applied one that I’ve heard in a couple of places and am working toward it.

Relationships

Subcategories: friends & family, community

Overarching goal: Strengthen my relationships and community for a better today and beautiful tomorrow.

Make a true effort to see my bestie and her fam more (6x/year) – I had the best of intentions here but life and sickness man, they stink (life sometimes, sickness always). So far we’re up to seeing each other just once so far… but scheduled for a second time (with our mamas) in July!

Streamline Mom’s physical and financial assets! – I’ve been working on the loft for the first half of the year, which is actually in a different category on my goals list but is part of my mom’s house. Next up is the basement which is my Q3 goal to complete (you may recall I started it last year and posted about its progress HERE). Finances, we’re getting there…

Connect with extended family on a regular basis – this is mostly sending snail mail birthday cards at this point, with a text or IG DM here and there. I want to get better about this!

Be open, friendly and supportive to my neighbors – I have made zero progress with this goal… here’s to being more intentional!

Approach coworkers and customers with joy – so far I have done an energy audit over a couple of weeks and I have found that most of my activities are a zap and I still get annoyed with some interactions. This quarter I intend to make a conscious effort to notice the good more.

Participate in online groups – I got accepted into the book club but have yet to participate (that is, even reading the book choice), and I did sign up for two more Patreon accounts. In Q2 I worked to catch up on their content (from 2026) and my intent moving forward is to stay up to date on new posts each week and start to participate more. Oh, and I commented on an IG post last week— I know, who is she? lol

Environment

Subcategories: home & auto, digital devices, online presence

Overarching goal: Improve the state of my spaces with organization and mini makeovers.

Organize memorabilia better – I have pushed this to a later in the year goal which I guess we’re approaching now. I plan to organize several closets this quarter, and the memorabilia is due for September…look for a post in October!

Do a deep cleaning in spring – I did this! The only piece I didn’t do is cleaning some green stuff off my deck. In my defense, my hose sprung a leak and since I don’t have an outside hookup having water spray all over my powder room while I power wash some green stuff was not ideal and thus did not happen. I’m considering this done though!

Complete 3 big house upgrades – I chickened out on doing anything with the back doors… postponing to next year. And the closet build out… TBD, I bought a rod that clips onto the wire shelving and it’s SO. MUCH. BETTER! I can easily move hangers! Such a dream lol— I still plan to go to IKEA to check out their closet systems (an outing with the bestie) so we’ll see. Might just be an exploratory mission for now. And the flooring, just might happen! Goal is to get quotes in Q3…

Clean up and organize computer storage – I’m making some progress on this… after reading Building A Second Brain and The PARA Method, but nothing that’s local to my computer. Mostly cloud based storage so far…

Optimize new iPhone to promote less screen time – I think I can call this “done” but might always be a work in progress with tweaks made as needed.

Set up iPad primarily for side hustle work – this is done too! I do have some media apps still and I’m okay with that. This investment doesn’t only have to be for work. Like my iMac isn’t only for work. 50/50 I’d say.

Continue transitioning away from Comcast email – this is a work in progress. I’m unsubscribing from unwanted emails as I come across them, but it feels never ending. And marking junk— man, I get a lot of junk…

Clean up online accounts – this is on the back burner for now. TBD…

Separate social media profiles for personal and business – this is completed! Moved appropriate follows on YouTube and Instagram.

Recreation

Subcategories: hobbies, experiences, entertainment

Overarching goal: Bring balance and joy into my life through adventure and creativity.

Read all of Lucy Score’s backlist – I am on track for this, though I don’t think it will be before the end of year. For the very reason that two or three are holiday based and I want to read them in December.

Complete 4 art projects (1/quarter) + fill 1 sketchbook – I don’t know if this will happen but I am getting back into art through my personal curriculum. I’ve done a mixed media unit and am currently deep into junk journaling!

Create, and partake in, seasonal fun lists – I am doing this! My goal is to do at least 9 things from my list each season. So far I have done this for Winter (January and February) and Spring (March-May) and am working on Summer (June-August) now.

See my first Cirque du Soleil show! – well… sadly, what I was sure was a sure thing, didn’t happen. More on that HERE.

Go to the movies, a concert, a performance, etc at least 2x – I’ve gone to the movies twice! So I can check this off, right? I do plan to see The Odyssey in July or August, and hopefully we’ll make it to my mom’s friend’s holiday choir concert in December. So is that potentially two checkmarks?

Do 5 or more things from my various bucket lists – um… I don’t think I’ve done anything lol, and I don’t feel like consulting my lists right now…will check in later.

Have popcorn and a movie night every weekend, 80% of the year – this is not happening. I think I’ve changed it to 20x over the year. But if I’m being honest, I’m not sure how on track I am for that either…

Watch Emily in Paris (plus new seasons of old faves) – I am through season 3 so far and am taking a break to watch some other shows plus new ones I want to see in summer. I watched Season 3 of Shrinking and Season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me. Currently watching Long Way Home and Every Year After. Will pickup Emily in September.

Complete a 2026 Music Jar – doing good with this one. Might add new artists to it. I am in LOVE with Alex Warren, on repeat…

Extra Credit / Mixed Media

Subcategories: none – or all – this category is meant to be a catch all, either a second goal from a previous subcategory, or one that could fall in multiple

Overarching goal: Welcome unexpected (and/or uncategorized) wishes with open arms.

Complete a personal curriculum 3x/year – did I write a post on this yet? I don’t think so… I struggled in Q1 but Q2 has been better and I’m really enjoying the art unit as I mentioned above in my sketchbook goal commentary.

“Improve” my handwriting – I was going to abandon this but then I decided to start up a PM gratitude practice and I’m doing it in cursive! Some words are illegible but others look pretty good. My problem is I write too fast and then letters get a little jumbled. So this quarter I’ll be working on slowing down.

Attempt 3-4 baking projects – I haven’t done the pie crust or bear claw, or anything with yeast. I did make Earl Gray cookies and they were tasty. Still going to attempt this.

Organize/declutter my stuff in Mom’s loft… I am almost finished this one! It took me two quarters to do but that’s okay! I’m almost there. Post coming soooooooon…!

All things dream home plotting and scheming! – I have checked off a few items from this project punch list in Q2 and am even browsing listings (for fun and my Makeover Moodboard series, first post HERE). Still expecting that the actual move is about three years out, at best.

Tackle other house projects from PPL – I originally thought I would do the whole list (smaller projects anyway) but I have since scaled it back. I want to get a couple done this year but more realistically will be continuing into next year and maybe beyond. Might be another series here… to keep me accountable, and help fill out my 2027 editorial calendar.

Improve my skin tone and texture – this is a work in progress still. I’m not super consistent. Story of my life…

Car stuff… have gotten an oil change and inspection so far…and got the AC problem fixed this week. And a car wash! So far so good, need to renew registration in August and another oil change in fall should do it. Trying to keep it going until at least 100,000 miles, which is in about 9,000 more miles… so probably another year and a half haha…

Read magazines on library shelves – I was going to scratch this one but my junk journaling obsession had me going through most of them already so it might be in reach now!

Test all nail polish colors and edit collection – I’ve done some of this. But kinda fell off. I was logging them in Notion and haven’t totally kept up with that so maybe will restart it now…

Have no goals December so that I can focus on…

Prepping and planning 2027! – I’m already brainstorming a list for 2027 as I work through some of my goals this year. Either things I’m pushing forward or spinoffs of what I’ve already done this year. I’m excited! But not wishing my life away…

Even though I’m not quite as far along as I’d hope to be, a lot of these goals are long term over the whole year. So considering that, I think I’m doing well. And the check-in is valuable for seeing where I am with everything and what seems doable for the second half of the year.
How are your goals going so far?
