I’m back with another Makeover Moodboard! If you missed the first post in this series, you can catch up HERE. I actually came across this listing back in June, but then I realized that my editorial calendar didn’t have a spot for a second installment until July. So it feels like it’s been a while (because it has), but here we are!
Before
This listing actually had two rooms that caught my eye last month: the kitchen and an open concept loft space with a bathroom. I considered doing both in one post but after procrastinating too long decided to just focus on the kitchen today.
When I first brainstormed this series, I didn’t think of including a kitchen because it’s more limited in what you can do with decor. But I liked all of the finishes in this kitchen, which is a plus— I’m not interested in doing any large remodels if I can help it. And the large windows and curved doorway next to the fridge were also enticing. And there was some open space that I could play with…
So, I decided to give it a go!
Floor Plan
First, a disclaimer: I do not have accurate dimensions of this space, the furniture pieces are not to scale, I am not an architect or interior designer, and I do not use CAD. All that said, my rendering is just a visual approximation based on the photos available to me and is intended to create a general floor plan for furniture placement ideation.
When I first saw the photos of this space I imagined a banquette in the open corner under the window. I’d put a round table (though a rectangular could also work), a couple of chairs and an area rug to anchor the space. Some shelving, sconces, and a hanging light fixture for some personality.
You could do an island in the center (free standing or permanent), but wouldn’t have room for both unless they were very small. Personally, I’d opt for the table and have planned this makeover accordingly.
As I worked through pinning different elements for my moodboard, I thought a nice upholstered lounge chair under the big window would be lovely too. If you opted for the island instead of the corner banquette, you could make the corner a lounge spot and maybe have room to include a second chair.
Moodboard
I have been dreaming of a sage kitchen for quite some time now. I loved the green upholstery on the banquette pictured above and thought it was a great jumping off point for this makeover.
Despite not wanting to do any MAJOR construction, there are a couple of more permanent features I’d want to update if this were my space:
- The floors
- The backsplash
- Add a door
I love a black and white checker tile floor in a kitchen, so that is definitely one of the changes I would want to make. The wood flooring currently runs throughout the downstairs, but with the cabinets in a similar tone, I’d want to break it up in the kitchen and run it into the laundry/utility/pantry as well.
A pretty backsplash would be nice. I contemplated different green tile options, but ideally would want the permanent features to be more neutral for longevity’s sake. What it lacks color, a white tile with a unique shape and iridescent finish adds character and charm.
And lastly, I’d want to install a door to close up the access to what is probably a laundry/utility room, but we’re going to pretend is a pantry for today’s exercise. Reeded glass obscures the view in case of any messes.
As I’ve expounded about before on the blog, Pinterest searches send me down a decor brainstorm rabbit hole. When I was searching for an area rug, I found the one above with a checkered floor— two birds, one scone! And it inspired a peachy/coral color to complement the sage green. Plus a couple teal accents in the light fixtures. This is actually the same color scheme I had in my last make over (just with less teal and more coral)…hmm, I’m sensing a theme.

I put off doing this moodboard until the last minute because I was afraid it wouldn’t come together, but I think it actually turned out pretty good, and I’m inspired to tackle spaces like this in the future. But next month: the upstairs suite!
