Monday Musings: August Goals

I already hate myself for what I’m about to say: I cannot believe July is over. Like, what??? How? I feel like I’m in a vortex. Are you in a vortex, too? Blink and you might miss it. So much for making the most of summer, or being low maintenance. I don’t know what’s going on!

What I do know is that I’m sick with a cold (and laryngitis which is like its own form of torture) and summer sickness is 10x worse than winter sickness. I don’t even want to think about goals AT ALL, but here we are, doing what we do… so let’s go!

My Google sheet tells me I only achieved 64% of my goals, which I should be happy about but honestly I thought I did better. Nevertheless, it’s okay! Considering I’ve been sick or injured for 1/3 of the month that’s pretty good.

I’m falling out of love with the personal curriculum again, to the point that I might ditch it, for now. Except for the art unit, as long as I make time for it. I fell off a little this month. I blame the addition of Junk Journal July in derailing my jewelry unit. I did make a friendship bracelet and watched some YT videos on jewelry making (and remixing) and organized my supplies, bought some critical things I was missing, but I didn’t actually make or remix anything. TBD if I’ll unofficially carry it over into August. Supposed to be doing Anatomy…

I’m not happy that I gave up on The Artist’s Way, even though it’s really not drawing me in. I thought about attempting to pick it back up in August…but I don’t know…

Reading List

I ended up reading two Lucy Score books in July and started a third, so I’m a little bit ahead for my yearly goal to read her backlist. I also got my library hold on the second new KL Walther book, which was a little far fetched but still fun! I got a free Audible trial and used my first month’s credit to get Mythos by Stephen Fry (his narration is on point) because I intended to do a Greece unit this month, but TBD since the whole curriculum thing is up in the air…

On the TBR for August is:

  • The Last Second Chance by Lucy Score
  • Book 1 in Riley Thorn series by Lucy Score
  • My Father’s Daughter by Gwyneth Paltrow
  • Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi – reread
  • Yes Please by Amy Poehler
  • Mythos by Stephen Fry?
  • The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron?
I’m off from my day job this week, so maybe I’ll get more of these goals accomplished just because of that. Or maybe I won’t (because, sickness). There’s already a handful that I don’t think will happen. We’ll see! I want to be okay with August being a little lax on goals. What do we think?
Are you working on goals in August?
