It’s that time again, another Makeover Moodboard! If you’ve missed any of the previous posts, you can catch up on the series HERE. In last month’s post I hinted about this space after deciding I would not be tackling two makeovers in one post! So this one has been brewing in the back of my mind for quite some time… let’s go!
Before
This room is what I’m calling an open concept loft space with a bathroom. I love the possibilities. The fact that it has a bathroom makes it much more versatile. I’ve decided to style it as a suite of sorts. For in-laws, family friends, a grown child that’s moved back home, etc…
Floor Plan
First, a disclaimer: I do not have accurate dimensions of this space, the furniture pieces are not to scale, I am not an architect or interior designer, and I do not use CAD. All that said, my rendering is just a visual approximation based on the photos available to me and is intended to create a general floor plan for furniture placement ideation.
When I first saw the layout of this space I immediately thought of one idea, but as I mulled it over several others popped into my head but ultimately I went back to my original thoughts as drawn out above. The area next to the stairs with the slanted ceiling just felt like the perfect nook for the bed. A couch in the far corner, a coffee station, a work table with two chairs under a window. A TV with a console under it (with a record collection perhaps?), but on an extension arm so it could be seen from bed.
The other layout I was considering basically swapped these two areas, with the bed facing the bathroom wall where the TV is in the rendering above, and the couch would be tucked under the slanted roof. The table and coffee hutch… TBD, I didn’t get that far before I went back to my original musing.
Moodboard
Even though there were no photos of the bathroom in the listing (or at least I didn’t save them), I found a couple of inspo pictures that I really loved. The first being the tile. Less for the color (thought I do love those too) than the scalloped shape, which led me down an arched rabbit hole.
I pinned the bed early on, and the rust and navy color scheme was just the jumping off point I needed. The denim blue couch was a perfect compliment and was begging to be snuggled into. Then I peppered in accent colors of pastel pink in the coffee station, greenery from plants and warm wood tones. The artwork ties all the colors together, even the yellow and sage from the adjacent bathroom.
Ribbed detailing can be found throughout in various elements: in the wall mounted planter base, the flush mount light fixture, the lamp base, and the channeling on the headboard.

I worked on this moodboard over a couple of days and I’m glad I did. When I walked away from it yesterday I wasn’t thrilled, but after sitting down today and fleshing out the details a little more I’m pleased with the result. I think this would be a relaxing getaway for guests or homeowners alike!
