Upcoming: My Social Media Plans

I love consuming social media content. Maybe a little too much. Maybe so much so that I have implemented a Scroll Less Challenge for myself this month (stay tuned for a Monday Musings post mid-month where I plan to share how that’s going). That said, while I’m great at consuming content, I am not good about posting it! Personal or otherwise. I’m self conscious about it, and I let that hold me back… but that’s about to change! Well, I may still be self conscious, but I’m going to post anyway.

To make it more likely that I will follow through, I set one of my blog/business goals this year to start posting on social media again, and to be consistent with it. It’s taken me most of the year to get this going (and get up the nerve), but my plan is to do a soft launch in September (couple IG grid posts, maybe some stories) and then start posting consistently in Q4. My hope is that having a presence on various platforms, working in tandem with my blog posts, will provide more value to my audience while also driving traffic to my weekly posts as well.

Platforms

Pinterest

If you’ve been around for a minute, you can probably guess that I use Pinterest (a lot). I have a personal account (which I’m currently obsessively scrolling for and pinning collage/junk journal inspiration images), but I also have one specifically for the blog that you can browse HERE. To date, I’ve mostly used it for gathering decor based inspiration on various trends that I reference and link back to from the blog. And most recently, I’ve created boards and sourced images for my Makeover Moodboard series, which you can catch up on HERE. I also have some shared boards with my personal account for things like home decor and forever home inspo.

Facebook

Ah, Facebook. It’s strange because I think I was a senior in college when it came out, and at the time it was only available for students so of course I joined, and early on I did post from time to time. Now I barely look at it. But I have kept my profile because I feel like an OG member, ya know? I also have a Facebook Page/Group for LAF Lines which you can see HERE (though there isn’t much to see). When I originally created this page/group, LAF was just my freelance graphic design business. And I never really posted anything, mostly because people who actually knew me IRL might follow me and see and that made me nervous. Now that LAF also encompasses my blog, I’m still nervous– maybe (probably) even more so!

Instagram

I am low key obsessed with Instagram. I mean, who isn’t? That’s the MO of the app, right? lol

But in all seriousness, I just love the content. I mean, I could do without all the ads and some of the suggested follows and such, but for the most part I enjoy it. I don’t really feel the comparison trap, for which I’m thankful. Of course I have a personal profile, and several years back, I posted some blog adjacent content there. It was nerve wracking for the same reason I shy away from posting to Facebook, people I know might see. I even posted talking head stories about the blog when I first launched in 2018– this was a huge deal for me! Recently I created a profile dedicated to LAF Lines HERE, but have yet to post anything.

Content Plans

Pinterest

Once upon a time I took a course on how to use Pinterest for promoting a blog/business. I scheduled some pins using Tailwind. Then I let it fall away. But I want to get back to using it as a tool for marketing, to promote my content, and build an audience that I can inspire in some way.

Over the past several months I have been going back through my old posts and identifying evergreen content that could be pinnable. My plan is to start posting some of my own images, existing and upcoming, to my Pinterest boards on a regular basis, and see if it draws traffic to this little ol’ blog. I’d love a follow if you’re over there!

Facebook

To be honest, I don’t have a plan to do anything on Facebook at the moment, so this is TBD for right now…maybe I’ll think it over and do some sort of relaunch in 2027…

Instagram

I am nervous but excited to get back to posting on Instagram.

At my day job, I am responsible for our content creation slash social media presence, which is mostly Instagram (that also shares to Facebook), our monthly blog, and quarterly newsletter. I have created a cadence that works in pockets of time between my actual CSR job description responsibilities. Sometimes, during busy spurts, it’s difficult to maintain— so I like to batch and work ahead as far in advance as I can so that if I come across a hectic time I have some leeway… all that to say, I plan to do the same with my social media for LAF Lines too.

I brainstormed a bunch of content categories I want to create posts for, because while I want to promote the blog and share about those posts, I also want to do a lot more than that. I want to create a community, and provide more value and behind the scenes content too. Currently, my content loop plan contains things like business BTS, graphic design and decor inspo, hobby check ins, hauls/unboxing videos, house projects and tours, etc.

Once I started writing this post, I immediately thought “maybe I’ll wait until 2027,” but I ultimately decided I need to start before I feel ready. I’m still scared to be vulnerable, but I’m going to do it anyway.
Will you give me a follow?
